Go and see

Pamjournals

If you haven't checked out Pam Garrison's Flickr page for a while you have to see her new journal spreads.  She is such a talented woman and I want to eat her pages they are so chock full of goodness.
Eggpress
Also loving the incredible goodies over at Eggpress.  I wish they made letter press posters of the same designs!  (Hint hint!)  I'd love some of these in my kitchen when I get back.   Especially the one that says...WORD.

YEs!

Vogueit_05

Luckily I got an email from Gypsy Girl, Alex. She sent me this link to these beautiful photo's she shared with us.  There's nothing better to me than fantasy fashion.  Lucky stylists! (Not to mention original photo coloring)  Gypsy Girl was right.  I love these!Vogueit_02Vogueit_06
Super wonderful!  If only I had access to model faces for my own artwork.  I love their stoic expressions and mean-ish angles.  Long necks and big hair.

Papaya Notes:

Hey cute!  Thanks to Kathleen this shout out was spotted in  skirt Mag this month!
She also caught a glimpse of Terra Firma Home's sidewalk window display too.  I love that there's bits of Jonothan Adler in there too.Terra Firma

Steps

Steps

I went ahead and combed over some recent photo's and found enough crappy shots to put together a little step-by-step album.  (It's over to the left- see it?) I'll add more of them as I go along and when I get a chance I'll try and find some older ones too.  But for now there's some of the last three larger pieces I've painted in Belize this winter.

Step One

Step One

Today I took a little time to cool off in the shade under the house.  My little friend Jake and I decided some painting was overdue.  He is responsible for the shredded bits in the hair and helped me mix and spread the background.  He was hoping to split the canvas so we each could make a half and as much as I'd like to think I'm a go-with-the-flow-artist I realized my limits.  But we've decided "assisted by Jake" would be an important part of the signature.  This picture Is the first layer to some unknown emerging lady.  She has flamboyant flowers in her hair.  The flamboyant trees have been blooming here for quite some time and they are just stunning.  I think I'll post the progression and start a little step-by-step album eventually for those interested.

Miss Lobster Fest

IMG_6592

Word has gotten around the island that my friend and I do makeup. (Well I don't anymore.  It's been yeeeears and my friend just looks so fantastic that people think she does.)   We've been enlisted as official helpers for the "Miss Lobster Fest Pageant".  Which is really so cute.  That means on the opening day of Lobster Fest when the island is in full party swing the local beauties will be released unto the world riding around on dolled up golf carts after making a stage appearance at the basketball court.  This is my little friend Estise trying to get in on the makeup action.  We did a trial run the other day and she just couldn't watch the big girls without getting a little herself.  After this photo was taken she demanded some blue upgrades.  She's telling me how she wants her hair here.

Photo album

Just a heads up to let you know that I did some updating to the albums here on the left.  If you come here often you've probably seen most of it.  Otherwise enjoy some new images and pics in there.

Du Buh Du Dolls

Though the doll world is huge and as of late a booming creative mecca, I have never been drawn to it.
But thanks to a comment in an earlier post I stumbled on Du Buh Du Dolls by the very talented Christine Alvarado.  Not only are the dolls incredible ( Like paintings come to life) but the photo's are equally interesting.  I can almost see her little people on woodsy adventures and textural escapades!  Just beautiful.  Have a look at this snappy blog and artwork right here.

Belonging

Powerlady

I came upon some incredible new faces recently and I am soooo thrilled.  That's really what I need when I am messing around.  A person's face makes all the difference.  This woman is particularly striking but most of mine are not.  I like trying to make a mundane and plane face turn into something more fantasy like.  Some of my favorites come from the most simple looking cabinet cards.

Ban.do

Bando

Stephanie was nice enough to post a link to Ban.do for me today under the previous artwork.  I'm in LOVE!  How cute right!  In this post a while back I was fantasizing about creating real life models of my illustrations.  Ban.do makes this an everyday possibility.  We all need heads o flowers and feathers.  So clever they are!  Check out all there pieces right here.
